Critters has launched a program that helps families with members serving in the military overseas to obtain free or discounted pet food. Grandma Mae’s Country Naturals is contributing between $0.25 and $1 each time one of its products is purchased. Customers can add their own $ to a donation box at Critters. Grandma Mae’s Country Naturals’ Military Families Program allows family members based anywhere in the US to apply for pet food benefits at www.countrynaturalspetfood.com. “Grandma Mae’s Country Naturals is the only pet food owned by a group of Main Street merchants around the country. Dogs love it, as it’s made fresh weekly in small batches in the USA!

It’s a bit of a drive for us to get to Critters from West Chicago, but we sometimes go out of our way to go there! You can tell that they really spend time playing with & getting to know the pets that are there. And, they always have great answers to any questions that we have.

I highly recommend Critters Pet shop! They are a knowledgeable staff, and their prices are very good. They keep real good care of all their animals. I have been a loyal customer for 10 years, and that’s because of the quality of the pets they have. I call Critters on any problems that I have, when it comes to my pets. Not one time have they steered me wrong.

Critters is one of only a few pet stores in Saint Charles. It has the most amazing fish aquariums in the area. They carry both freshwater and tropical fish. Their staff is very knowledgeable and helpful.

They typically have a good variety of kittens and puppies as well. Prices are reasonable and you can find a great variety of supplies. PLEASE KEEP YOUR DOGS ON A LEASH AND BRING YOUR CATS IN AT NIGHT.

When walking a small dog where coyotes may be present, take along some device, such as a walking stick, that can make loud noises. If you frequently see coyotes, consider a change in your schedule or route. Be aware that coyotes will defend their den, so if you sight a coyote that appears aggressive in an area where there may be a den, avoid that area. Pups are born in April and May, and will be in the den through June or July.

Remember:

Coyotes are capable of taking a small cat or dog.
Small pets in the area have become targets of coyote attacks.
In order to avoid attracting coyotes …
Do NOT feed any wild animals, so coyotes won’t scavenge for scraps in your back yard.
Bring in pet food and water.
Secure garbage cans.
Keep pets on leashes.
Do not approach a coyote.
As long as humans do not threaten them or their pups, coyotes will be the first to run away.

We understand you don’t have the time to clean a tank. Our service includes two visits per month. Each time we do a partial water change, clean filters as necessary and scrub algae. Caroline Janczak of St. Charles was named as one of the 2003- 04 scholarship winner of the Northern Fox Valley Chapter of Women in Management Inc. Each recipient receives $1,200 toward higher education expenses. In addition, they receive an associate membership in the chapter, giving them the opportunity to attend the chapter’s monthly meetings throughout the 2003-04 year.
Janczak and her husband, Mark, own Critters Pet Shop. Caroline Janczak is currently pursuing her MBA from Roosevelt University.
